BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The student-athletes of Southern Miss track and field are set and rearing to go for the 2019 Conference USA Indoor Championships held at UAB.
Southern Miss has enjoyed success thus far in the indoor season, with first-place finishes, new records and personal bests set. They look to continue this success in the Conference Championships held by UAB in Birmingham, Ala.
John Warren surpassed his previous best, also the school record, in the triple jump earlier in the season, ranking No. 1 in C-USA, the NCAA, and No. 3 in the world at 16.81m (55'2"). Sandra Szpott ran to a new school record in the 1 mile, finishing at 4:49.56. Caleb Parker broke the school record previously set by himself in the 60m Hurdles, at 7.73. These are just a few of the highlights the team has had this year, as there were first place finishes by both women and men in both track events and field events.
Head Coach Jon Stuart
"This is the competition we've been training for all year. There's a lot of parity among the top teams, so we need to be at our best in all of our events over the next two days. Training has been going well leading up to the championships and our kids are chomping at the bit to get going."
