Rain Cancels Final Round of Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Rain washed away the final 18 holes of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate Tuesday and the Southern Miss men's golf team captured a 13th-place showing in the event which was held at the Robert Trent Jones course at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala.
The squad shot a final-round two-under-par 286 on Monday after opening with a team score of 301 earlier in the day to complete the 36-hole event with a 587 on the par-72, 7,212-yard course.
Freshman Joey Kirkland (West Monroe, La.) led the way for the Golden Eagles shooting a score of 143, including a team-low round of 70 and tie for 24th-place.
Junior Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) added rounds of 72 and 73 for a 145 and a 35th-place tie, while junior Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) added a 78 and 71 for a 149 and a 55th-place tie.
Sophomore Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) sits in a 62nd-place tie after posting scores of 79 and 72 for a 151, while sophomore Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.) added scores of 78 and 74 for a 152 to tie for 65th place.
Florida State leads the team standings by firing a minus-23, 553, to defeat Louisville by five strokes.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics, Feb. 25-26, to be played at the Oakbourne Country Club.
