WBB Welcomes Mississippi Valley State, Omaha and VCU for Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles of Southern Miss women's basketball welcome Mississippi Valley State, Omaha, and VCU to Reed Green Coliseum on Friday and Saturday as they host the 32^nd annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic.

They will kick off the 2019 Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic with Mississippi Valley State on Friday, Nov. 29 at 4 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum. The entire schedule of the tournament is as follows:
Friday, Nov. 29
4 p.m. – Southern Miss vs. Mississippi Valley State
6 p.m. – VCU (home) vs. Omaha (away)
Saturday, Nov. 30
2 p.m. – Mississippi Valley State (home) vs. Omaha (away)
4 p.m. – Southern Miss vs. VCU

The Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic History

This will be the 32^nd installment of the tournament for the Lady Eagles
It will be the 21^st time the tournament will be held in November
It will be the ninth time they have hosted the tournament under the name of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic
The tournament has been held under a total of seven different names (Lady Eagle Classic, Cabot Lodge Classic, Comfort Inn Classic, Hattiesburg Inn Classic, Hattiesburg Inn on the Hill Classic, LaQuinta Inn Lady Eagle Classic presented by WXXV Fox 25, and Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic)
This will be the 16^th tournament for head coach Joye Lee-McNelis
Under McNelis, the Lady Eagles are 22-8 when playing in the tournament
There have been a total of 60 participating teams in the Classic as of 2019
This will be the first time participating for VCU and Omaha
Mississippi Valley State has participated in the Classic the most of any other opponent, appearing in eight tournaments

Southern Miss and MVSU
The Lady Eagles will take on the Devilettes for the 21^st time in program history on Friday. Against Mississippi Valley, Southern Miss is 18-2 with a 13-1 record at home in Reed Green. Out of all the different teams that the Lady Eagles have brought in for the tournament, the Lady Eagles have played them six times. However, the Devilettes have played in the Classic a total of seven times. Southern Miss is on a winning streak of 14 against the Devilettes. Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is 6-0 against Mississippi Valley.

Southern Miss and VCU
The Lady Eagles and the Rams of VCU will meet for the 11^th time in their histories on Saturday. The majority of their matchups came between the 1991-92 and 1994-95, with the last game being played in December of 1999. The Lady Eagles have a winning record of 10-0 against the Rams, with a 4-0 record at Reed Green. The Rams are coached by Beth O'Boyle, who is in her sixth season. She is assisted by Kirk Crawford, who was McNelis' assistant from her first season in 2004-05 to the 2007-08 season.

Canned Food Drive
Fans can receive a complimentary ticket to the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic if they bring two non-perishable food items to donate. Fans can do this for either of the Lady Eagle games.
