WBB Welcomes Mississippi Valley State, Omaha and VCU for Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic

This will be the 32nd installment of the annual tournament.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles of Southern Miss women's basketball welcome Mississippi Valley State, Omaha, and VCU to Reed Green Coliseum on Friday and Saturday as they host the 32nd annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic.

They will kick off the 2019 Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic with Mississippi Valley State on Friday, Nov. 29 at 4 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum. The entire schedule of the tournament is as follows:
Friday, Nov. 29
4 p.m. – Southern Miss vs. Mississippi Valley State
6 p.m. – VCU (home) vs. Omaha (away)
Saturday, Nov. 30
2 p.m. – Mississippi Valley State (home) vs. Omaha (away)
4 p.m. – Southern Miss vs. VCU

The Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic History
Southern Miss and MVSU
The Lady Eagles will take on the Devilettes for the 21st time in program history on Friday. Against Mississippi Valley, Southern Miss is 18-2 with a 13-1 record at home in Reed Green. Out of all the different teams that the Lady Eagles have brought in for the tournament, the Lady Eagles have played them six times. However, the Devilettes have played in the Classic a total of seven times. Southern Miss is on a winning streak of 14 against the Devilettes. Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is 6-0 against Mississippi Valley.

Southern Miss and VCU
The Lady Eagles and the Rams of VCU will meet for the 11th time in their histories on Saturday. The majority of their matchups came between the 1991-92 and 1994-95, with the last game being played in December of 1999. The Lady Eagles have a winning record of 10-0 against the Rams, with a 4-0 record at Reed Green. The Rams are coached by Beth O'Boyle, who is in her sixth season. She is assisted by Kirk Crawford, who was McNelis' assistant from her first season in 2004-05 to the 2007-08 season.Â

- Under McNelis, the Lady Eagles are 22-8 when playing in the tournament
- There have been a total of 60 participating teams in the Classic as of 2019
- This will be the first time participating for VCU and Omaha
- Mississippi Valley State has participated in the Classic the most of any other opponent, appearing in eight tournaments
