It was the first time Southern Miss had defeated the Warhawks on their home court since December 9, 1981. That was head coach Joye Lee-McNelis' freshman year on the Lady Eagles squad.
This time, it was her first time facing the Warhawks since 2012. It was also a special day because she went against one of her former assistant coaches - Brooks Donald Williams. Williams was an assistant for McNelis at Memphis in 2003-04, and then moved with McNelis to Hattiesburg where she would be an assistant for the next three seasons.
