Southern Miss Women’s Soccer Falls to #19 FAU, 3-1 on Sunday Afternoon

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (6-6-0, 1-3-0 C-USA) fell to #19 FAU (9-3-0, 3-1-0 C-USA) by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
FAU took the lead on a goal by Mary O'Hara that came in the 23rd minute of play.
Southern Miss responded quickly to O'Hara's goal when junior forward Ariel Diaz drilled a shot past the FAU goalkeeper just 14 seconds later, tying the match 1-1.
The match remained tied 1-1 until Southern Miss scored on its own goal, allowing FAU to take a 2-1 lead.
FAU tacked on an insurance goal in the 76th minute of the match after Tiril Haga found the back of the net.
Despite the loss, junior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich recorded six saves in the match, just one save shy of her season high.
Southern Miss will be back in action on Friday, October 11 when they take on Charlotte (8-3-0, 3-1-0). Friday's match will be played at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N. C. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT)/7:00 p.m. (ET).
