Southern Miss Women’s Soccer Set to Battle #19 FAU on Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (6-5-0, 1-2-0 C-USA) will take on #19 FAU (8-3-0, 2-1-0 C-USA) on Sunday, October 6. The Golden Eagles and the Owls will kick-off at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The last time out
In its last match played, Southern Miss defeated FIU 3-0 on Friday night (October 4).
Goals by junior forward Ariel Diaz, junior midfielder JoAnnie Ramos and redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz paved the way for the Golden Eagles in the contest.
Diaz put the Golden Eagles on top 1-0 early in the contest after finding the back of the net just 10 minutes into the match. Pohevitz was credited with the assist on the goal by Diaz.
Ramos extended the Golden Eagles lead to 2-0 after successfully converting a penalty kick in the 37th minute.
Pohevitz provided the Golden Eagles with an insurance goal after heading in a ball in the 52nd minute on an assist from redshirt senior defender Kaitlin Fayard.
Senior goalkeeper Karsen Gildea and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Preston each saw action in the contest. Gildea and Preston registered two saved each in the match.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Panthers 8-5 in the contest. The shutout against FIU marked the fifth of the season for the Golden Eagles defense.

FAU currently leads the all-time series, 3-2. Southern Miss is 1-1-0 when facing FAU at home, 1-1-0 in contests played in Boca Raton and 1-0-0 in neutral site matchups.
