Women’s Soccer Ends Sunday’s Match in a 0-0 Tie With UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (7-9-1, 2-6-1 C-USA) ended Sunday's match in a 0-0 tie with UAB (4-6-6, 2-4-3 C-USA) at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. The match went into double overtime before a tie was called.
Sunday's match was a competitive 110 minute battle between both teams. The Golden Eagles and the Blazers each had their scoring opportunities, but neither team could capitalize.
Southern Miss nearly won the contest in the closing minutes of the second overtime period when redshirt senior defender/midfielder Jacky Manteas headed a ball past UAB goalkeeper Eve Beyer, but Manteas' goal was waived off due to an offside call.
Southern Miss redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Preston earned her first start of the season on Sunday, and played well. The Menlo Park, Calif. native went the distance in the net, logging a single-game career-high 110 minutes of playing time in the contest. In addition, Preston also registered a single-game career-high six saves in the match.
Southern Miss outshot UAB 26-14 in the match. 12 of the Golden Eagles' 26 shots were on goal. Southern Miss also ended the match with a 6-5 corner kicks advantage over UAB.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday, November 1 when they host the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex at 3:00 p.m. (CT). Friday's match will mark the last match of the regular season for the Golden Eagles. Seniors Karsen Gildea, Jessica Shepherd, Kaitlin Fayard and Jacky Manteas will be recognized for their contributions to the Southern Miss women's soccer program after Friday' match as a part of Senior Day.
