Women’s Soccer Closes Out 2019 Season Against Louisiana Tech

The Golden Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 7-10-1 and a record of 2-7-1 in C-USA.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (7-10-1, 2-7-1 C-USA) closed out its 2019 season against Louisiana Tech (13-4-2, 5-4-1 C-USA) on Friday evening at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles fell to the Lady Techsters by a final score of 2-1 in overtime.
Friday's match remained a scoreless affair until the 76th minute when Louisiana Tech's Autumn Woodard netted a goal, giving the Lady Techsters a 1-0 lead. Stella Li picked up the assist on Woodard's goal.
With just over six minutes remaining in the match and Louisiana Tech clinging to a 1-0 lead, Southern Miss redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz scored an equalizing goal that eventually sent the match to overtime. Freshman defender Madisyn Flammia was credited with the assist on Pohevitz's goal.
In the 96th minute of play Woodard found the back of the net for the second time in the match. Woodard's second goal marked the game-winning goal, propelling Louisiana Tech to a 2-1 victory. Li earned the assist on Woodard's goal, marking her second assist of the day.

Season Highlights
- Southern Miss defeated SEC foe Auburn for the first time in program history (September 13). The Golden Eagles won the contest by a final score of 2-0.
- The Golden Eagles posted four consecutive shutouts (Sept. 5-15) during the season. The four consecutive shutouts are the most consecutive shutouts recorded by any team in the history of the Southern Miss women's soccer program since 2003.
- Junior defender Caitlin Pierce was named the C-USA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 15.
- Junior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich was named the 2019 recipient of the Blake Nettles Scholarship.
- Redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz finished the 2019 season as Southern Miss' leading goal scorer. Pohevitz scored eight goals over the course of the season.
- Pohevitz and junior midfielder Jenny Caracheo wrapped up the season tied for the most game-winning goals scored. Pohevitz and Caracheo netted two game-winning goals each.
- In addition to finishing the season as Southern Miss' leading goal scorer, Pohevitz also tallied the most points (18) of any player on the Southern Miss roster.
- Redshirt senior defender Kaitlin Fayard racked up more minutes than any player on the Southern Miss roster over the course of the season. Fayard logged a total of 1,580 minutes.
- Pohevitz, Pierce, and junior midfielder JoAnnie Ramos all recorded two assists a piece during the season, tying for the most assists recorded by a Southern Miss player in 2019.
