
Women's Soccer Falls to UTSA, 2-1 in San Antonio

Golden Eagles’ redshirt senior Jacky Manteas earned the first start of her Southern Miss career.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (6-8-0, 1-5-0 C-USA) fell to UTSA (6-6-1, 2-4-0 C-USA) by a final score of 2-1 on Thursday night at the Park West Athletics Complex.

UTSA took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of match after Deja Sandoval headed in a ball off of a corner kick. Ellis Patterson was credited with the assist on Sandoval's goal.

Ariel Diaz tied the match, 1-1 with a goal in the 33rd minute. The goal marked the fifth of the season for the Southern Miss junior forward.

In the 72nd minute, Sandoval scored her second goal of the match and what would also prove to be the game-winning goal, propelling UTSA to a 2-1 victory. Patterson and Kendall Kloza each collected an assist on Sandoval's goal.

Despite the loss, junior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich tallied a career-high 10 saves in the contest. Prior to tonight, the most saves that Mindnich had ever recorded in a match during her Southern Miss career was seven.

Southern Miss won the corner kicks advantage, 7-4.

Southern Miss will be back in action on Sunday, October 20 when they take on UTEP at 1:00 p.m. (CT)/12:00 p.m. (MT) at University Field in El Paso, Texas.
