Women's Tennis Heads to LSU for ITA Southern Regionals

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – With two tournaments in the books, the Southern Miss women's tennis team will continue its fall campaign at the ITA Southern Regional this weekend. Hosted at LSU, the Regionals will run Thursday through Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles will send Arina Amaning, Katia de la Garza, Monique Burton, and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan to Baton Rouge, La. Amaning was the lone Golden Eagle to receive a bid straight into the Main Draw. De la Garza, Burton, and Yazgan will all battle in the Qualifying Draw for a spot in the Main Draw.

The Qualifying Draw will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and run the entirety of the day. De la Garza will square off against Christina Sisti of Tulane in her opening draw. At the same time, Burton will match up with Hanna Blinouskaya of McNeese State. Yazgan, who received a bye in the first round of the Qualifying Draw, will play the winner of Caraline Scheufler (Auburn) and Dominika Hrabalova (UAB) at 1 p.m.

To qualify for the Main Draw, the three will need to each win three matches on Thursday. Amaning will open against fourth-ranked Magda Adaloglou (Miss. State) on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

In doubles, both teams received a bid straight into the Doubles Main Draw. Burton and de la Garza will battle Ansari/Chen (Auburn) in the opening round at 9 a.m. on Friday. Amaning and Yazgan will face sixth-seeded Russo/Ovunc (Auburn) at the same time.
