The Matchup
The Lady Eagles are coming off a tough and close loss on the road to UAB, where Daishai Almond scored a 3-point buzzer beater to end the third quarter, the first of her career, and Southern Miss nipping at the heels of the Blazers throughout the entire contest. It was a foul-filled game on both sides, but the Lady Eagles out-rebounded them and gave them a run for their money in the second half. The Blazers ended up on top, defeating Southern Miss 71-60.
The Charlotte 49ers head to Reed Green Coliseum for the 28th installment of the 11th-most played matchup for the Lady Eagles. The 49ers are 8-1 when playing in Halton Arena this season, and are 1-5 when on the road. Their 10 wins come against Wofford, UNC Asheville, ECU, Wright State, Bethune-Cookman, and Davidson, with Conference USA wins over FIU and Florida Atlantic. Many of the members of the 49ers roster come from the Tar Heel State, with three from South Carolina, two from Maryland, one Virginian, one Floridian, and one Spaniard. Last time out, the 49ers defeated Florida Atlantic at home, 68-47. Last time Charlotte and Southern Miss met, it was a double-overtime thriller that ended in the 49ers favor on the road in North Carolina.
Puppy Love
After a tough road trip to Middle Tennessee and UAB last week, the Lady Eagles could use some TLC. Assistant Coach Patosha Jeffery arranged for the Southern Pines Animal Shelter to bring three adorable pups to Reed Green Coliseum for some post-morning practice puppy therapy with the Lady Eagles. One of the three was adopted by one of the construction workers working on the new facility for Southern Miss Volleyball.
