Golden Eagles Dominate at the Net against Middle Tennessee

Murfreesboro, Tenn. -Â After recording 21 blocks in a three-set sweep (28-26, 25-19, 25-18)Â of Middle Tennessee, the Southern Miss women's volleyball team became just the second Division I team in the last five years to record at least 21 blocks in a three-set game. The only other team was Fresno State in 2017.Â
The Golden Eagles got out to a rocky start as they fell behind early, but utilized an 8-1 run to regain control. The Golden Eagles and Blue Raiders continued to trade points until Southern Miss ultimately won the set, 28-26. The Golden Eagles, on seven occasions this season, finished matches with seven blocks or less. In the first set today, Southern Miss recorded seven blocks.Â
The block party continued in the second set as the Golden Eagles added 10 more to their total. As if Southern Miss wanted to highlight the blocking success, Ashley Berry and Catherine Repsher combined to block the final point of the second set.Â
In the third set, Southern Miss added four more blocks to bring their total to 21. The Golden Eagles topped their previous high of 17 kills against Ole Miss, which was set on Sept. 2.Â
Repser's 11 blocks marked a new high for the junior and sophomore Chandler Marshall topped her previous best with nine blocks. Sarah Bell added 23 assists to climb within 154 assists of No. 1 all-time at Southern Miss. Kylie Grandy recorded nine kills at a .212 clip. Alexis Coombs had eight kills and Berry finished with five. Bell and Grandy each finished with 12 digs, while Madison Lawler ended with 10.Â
