
Southern Miss Shuts Out FIU 3-0 in Miami

The Golden Eagles improve their conference record to 2-1
MIAMI, Fla. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (8-2, 2-1 C-USA) shut out the Florida International Panthers (0-12, 0-4 C-USA) 3-0 on Friday night at the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla.
Miah Zuazua started the scoring for the Golden Eagles with a goal at the 3:23 mark in the first half, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Zuazua was assisted by sophomore defender Caitlin Pierce on the goal.
The Golden Eagles maintained a 1-0 lead until Monica Maldonado found the back of the net at the 29:55 mark in the first half, doubling the Golden Eagles' lead. Zuazua was credited with the assist on the goal by Maldonado.
Already leading 2-0, sophomore midfielder Jenny Caracheo provided the Golden Eagles with insurance late in the game after netting a goal at the 61:34 mark in the match. Zuazua collected her second assist of the game on the goal by Caracheo.
Southern Miss goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich finished the game with six saves in 90:00 minutes played, en route to recording her second shutout of the season. Mindnich is now tied with Florida Atlantic's Jennifer Ocampo as the C-USA leader in shutouts. The Melbourne Beach, Fla. native currently leads C-USA with 17 saves on the season and an average of 5.67 saves per game.
The Golden Eagles ended the match with a 15-12 shots advantage over the Panthers.
Southern Miss will concluded their road trip in the state of Florida with a match against Florida Atlantic (6-6, 3-0 C-USA) on Sunday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. (ET)/12:00 p.m. (CT) at the FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
