HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Freshman Rana Hussein stole the show by each of Southern Miss' goals in a 2-0 exhibition win over Mississippi Valley State.Â
The Golden Eagles held a 22-2 shots advantage. Hussein's first strike came on a shallow cross from Stephanie Garcia just 83 seconds into the action. There was a 53-minute lightning delay just after the second half got underway, and then Hannah Abrams fed Hussein on a long cross in the 78th minute for the game's final score.Â
Play was called after that moment due to darkness.
Kendell Mindnich took on primary keeper duties (45 minutes), while Karsen Gildea played 33 minutes in her debut and tallied the lone two saves.
Southern Miss will open its regular season next Thursday, Aug. 16, with a 7 p.m. CT battle at Mississippi State.
