The 2018 Cross Country schedule was announced Friday.
Â
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The schedule for the 2018 Cross Country season was announced by Coach Jon Stuart and Coach Aaron Kindt on Friday.
Â
Quote – Aaron Kindt
"We return a deep, veteran group this year and we've put together a schedule that reflects that. September will provide a couple of big early season tests at Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. These meets will give us opportunities to compete against the nation's best at two of the premier venues in the country. We also will get a chance to preview the Regional Championship course in October when we travel to FSU. This will be a very challenging fall, but this team is ready for that challenge and I am excited to see what this group can achieve this year."
Â
The team finished the 2017 season as the runner-ups at the C-USA Championships and by placing four athletes on the All-Conference Team. Kindt coached Courtney Filliben to two finishes that both place as the No. 2 times in school history, coached Kate Mattox to a school record in the 1500m, as well as recording the first NCAA East Qualifier in school history and the No. 2 ranked freshman in the country.
Â
The team starts the season on Aug. 31 in Clinton, Miss., at the Mississippi College Opener and then will head to Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 15 for the Commodore Classic. Later on in the month, the squad will head to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The regular-season is concluded with the Florida State Invitational on Oct. 12 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Â
Postseason begins in Boca Raton, Fla. with the Conference USA Championships hosted by Florida Atlantic. The NCAA South Regional Championship is hosted by Florida State on Nov. 9.
