
Women's Tennis Earn 7th Sweep This Season

JACKSON, Miss. - Southern Miss Women's Tennis blanked Jackson State 4-0 on Saturday for its 16th win of the season, 7th sweep, to improve to 16-5.
The Golden Eagles have now swept the Lady Tigers this season after winning 4-3 at home in early March.
Southern Miss took a 1-0 lead after No. 2 and 3 won doubles play. Elena Roca and Rikeetha Pereira win their first doubles match paired together since the first three matches of the season with a 6-0 win at No. 2. The duo are now 1-3 in doubles play. Anastasia Cobanovic and Tanit Lopez Lopez improved to 5-1 in doubles with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Lopez took advantage of the doubles win momentum and won her fifth singles match of the season 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. Lopez made it 2-0 Southern Miss before Claudia Castella finished her match at No. 6 with the same score. Castella improves to 9-4 in singles play in her senior campaign.
Tjasa Jerse clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-3 finish. Jerse improved to 16-1 on the season, the second best record on the squad.
Roca remains undefeated this season with her last three matches going unfinished.
The Golden Eagles return home tomorrow and host UAB at 10 a.m. Tomorrow's match will be the first Conference-USA opponent the Golden Eagles have faced this season.
