Lady Eagles Defeat William Carey in Home Opener

Southern Miss took down the Crusaders on Education Day.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles defeated the William Carey Crusaders in their home opener on Tuesday, topping them 74-48. Southern Miss will head into the rest of the season with a record of 1-0.
The Rundown
The Lady Eagles started every player on the bench, with redshirts Camille Anderson, Imani Carter and Kelsey Jones all seeing playing time as well as all three true freshmen.
Jones, a Starkville, Miss. native, started her first career game as a Lady Eagle with a bang, posted her first double-double with 15 rebounds and 12 points. Anderson, who sat out the year due to NCAA transfer requirements, also saw her first career playing time at Southern Miss with five rebounds and nine points to her name.
Southern Miss led from the beginning, scoring 22 points in the first quarter with William Carey scoring 18, and led in every quarter following. The Lady Eagles played hard in the paint, outscoring William Carey 58-10 overall. Southern Miss played the fast-paced game that Coach McNelis expects them to.
Next Time Out
The Lady Eagles will return to the court in Reed Green Coliseum on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2pm, when they face Grambling State.
