
Lady Eagles Fall to South Alabama, 77-68

Jaguars prove tough competition for the Lady Eagles in Mobile.
MOBILE, Ala.– The Lady Eagles fell short in a tough neck and neck battle with the Jaguars, 77-68, in Mitchell Center.
Southern Miss (2-1) had a hot start against South Alabama (2-0), having a scoring run of 10 points in the first quarter for almost four minutes. The lead changed 13 times over the course of the game and the two teams were tied six times. Although there was a lot of back and forth, the Lady Eagles held the lead for a total of 27 minutes. In the first half alone, USM and South Alabama were tied five times. The Lady Eagles held the lead in the majority of the first half with a little more than 14 minutes being under their control.
After scoring 20 points to South Alabama's 14 in the first quarter, Southern Miss and the Jaguars matched each other's points in the second and third quarter, both scoring 14 in the second and 21 in the third.
The Lady Eagles were barely outrebounded by the Jaguars but were bested by two, 32-34. Alarie Mayze led the team in rebounds with nine boards overall, seven being offensive for the junior. Amber Landing had five rebounds overall with four being defensive.
Camille Anderson continues to emerge as a leader for the Lady Eagles. She started for the first time and led Southern Miss in points with 18. She went 3-for-6 from the 3-point line and was 7-for-12 from the field overall. She played for 31 minutes in total. Megan Brown, Alarie Mayze and Shonte Hailes continue to prove themselves as instrumental to the team, as Hailes led the team in both steals and assists, and all three scored in double digits. Hailes recorded 11 points, four assists and four steals. Mayze was 8-for-10 from the field with 17 points and had three steals on the night. Brown had 11 points and three assists.
