Â

Â
The match was a tough defensive battle that saw the first half end with both teams knotted at 0-0 on the scoreboard.
Â
The second half of play began much like the first, as neither offense was afforded many shot opportunities due to the stifling defenses on both ends.
Â
Southern Miss goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich registered a huge save in the second half in a one-on-one situation that proved to be a difference maker in the match.
Â
The golden opportunity of the match for the Golden Eagles came with just under 12 minutes remaining in the match when sophomore midfielder Miah Zuazua drilled a shot from 20 yards out, past the outstretched arms of UAB goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Â
The Southern Miss defense that has been a reliable force all season long stepped up once again when they were needed most, in the most critical matchup of the season.
