HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss soccer team looks to get back on track Friday at 4 p.m., when it hosts Lamar at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles (3-1-0) come into Friday's game after a tough 1-0 loss to in-state rivals, Mississippi State, last Sunday. Despite the eight shot attempts, Southern Miss couldn't get on the board. The defense held strong after surrendering an own goal by defending eight corner kicks.
Brittany Taylor had a season-high eight save game against the Bulldogs. Becky McMullan and Breann Hedin lead the team with two shots each and will look to keep up the offensive pressure on the Cardinals, who have allowed 15 goals this season.
The Cardinals travel to Hattiesburg with a 1-5 record. The team landed its first win of the season on Sept. 5th beating Southern 3-0. The Golden Eagles will look to shut down midfielder M.J. Eckart who has scored four of the five goals for the Cardinals this season.
The Friday matchup will be the first time coach Mohammed El-Zare faces the Cardinals as the head coach for Southern Miss.
Scouting the Opposition: After a four game home stand, the Lamar Cardinals are coming off a 1-1 week losing earlier in the week at Louisiana-Lafayette 4-1 and picking up its first win against Southern 3-0 on the road on Labor Day.
