HATTIESBURG, Miss. –- The Southern Miss women's soccer team looks to keep its undefeated season when they play host to Mississippi State, Sunday, at 5 p.m. at the Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles are 3-0-0 and have only allowed one goal. The team showed its determination last weekend after getting behind in the 2nd minute off a corner kick and coming back to beat UL-Lafayette 2-1 to keep its perfect record.
Along with the standout defense, the offense continues to dominate by controlling possession and creating scoring opportunities in every game. The Golden Eagles have had 50 shot attempts in its first three games of the season and look to continue to put pressure on the Bulldogs.
Beth Coleman, Becky McMullan, Katie Richmond and Bri Schubeck have all recorded one goal this season and will look to add another on Sunday. Stephanie Garcia's offensive presence will help the team attack with her distribution of passes in the midfield. Her two assists last weekend helped lift the Golden Eagles over the Ragin' Cajun.
Kierstin Bradley, last season's leading goal scorer, has had chances of her own but hasn't been able to find the back of the net just yet. Along with Bradley, Lydnsey Lee has also had her fair chances of goals with eight shots, four on goal.
The Golden Eagles face the 2-2-0 Bulldogs who will be traveling to Hattiesburg after a Friday night showdown against South Alabama.
The Bulldogs group of forwards have been the key to its offense but Adriana Garcia and Brittany Taylor will look to control the game and keep their undefeated season going. Taylor has made 14 saves and recorded two shutouts.
Under Coach Mohammed El-Zare, the Golden Eagles are 1-1-1 against the Bulldogs. After a thrilling double overtime tie last season, the Golden Eagles look forward to hosting its in-state rival.
Scouting the Opposition: Mississippi State: The Bulldogs (2-2-0) are coming off a 0-1 loss to Liscomb University Friday and a 3-1 win against UT Martin last Sunday. Mississippi State travels to Mobile, Ala. to face the South Alabama Jaguars Friday, Sept. 2.
