Golden Eagles Defend Title: Team Champion at LSU XC Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Southern Miss cross country team placed five runners in the top 10 to defend their team championship at the LSU Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning.
"I am very pleased and excited with the way the women competed today," coach Aaron Kindt said. "The effort they all had and how they competed as a whole is what we strive for."
Southern Miss finished with 33 points with Tulane at second with 50 points followed by LSU with 55, UL- Lafayette with 101, Xavier- Louisiana 163, Alcorn State 179 and New Orleans 202.
Senior Dana Dillistone ran a time of 18:09.45, placing third in the 5K course. Theresa Harto placed fifth with a time of 18:22.90 and not far after was Daphney Stanford finishing sixth with a time of 18:26.29. Rounding out the top 10 finishes for the Golden Eagles included Courtney Filliben a time of 18:31.83 for ninth-place, Regen McGee with a time of 18:36.52 for tenth-place and Victoria Hoppe just narrowly missed top ten with a time of 18:39.21 for eleventh.
Savannah McMillon placed 16th with a time of 19:00.29 and Chloe Tedder was 23rd overall with a time of 19:32.85.
Five of the eight runners that competed broke their personal best records.
"I am excited to watch this team continue to grow and build into the second half of the season," said Kindt. "I'm proud of them and the hard work they are putting in every day."
The Golden Eagles will now have a four-week break to prepare for the second half of the season. The Crimson Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on October 14, will be the first race back.
