HATTIESBURG, Miss.— The Southern Miss cross country team will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to compete in the LSU Invitational. The race will be hosted by Louisiana State University and will take place at the Highland Rd. Park, Saturday, Sept. 17.
The women's 5k race is slated to kickoff at 7:30 a.m.
"We are coming off a solid block of training these last couple weeks," coach Kindt said. "Very pleased with the progress we've made as a group."
The Golden Eagles will be led into this competition by seniors Dana Dillistone, Courtney Filliben and Daphney Stanford. All three coming off a great first showing at the Warhawk Invitational, where Dillistone took Individual Championship honors. Chloe Tedder and Savannah McMillon, who both had strong showings in the Rebel Invitational, are also slated to compete this weekend.
"This is by far the deepest team we have since I've been here, said Kindt. "The depth has provided a new level of energy and competitiveness that was missing the last couple seasons. Excited to finally let them off the leash and get a chance to see where we stack up at this point in the year."
Following the race this weekend, the Golden Eagles will have a four-week break to prepare for the second half of the season. The Crimson Classic, hosted by University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on October 14, will be the first race back.
