HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Former Southern Miss men’s golfer Casey Fernandez qualified for the PGA Latin American Tour earlier this week at the tour’s summer qualifying event.
Fernandez, the four-year letterwinner (2011-15) from McAlester, Okla., shot a 54-hole score of 217 (76-68-73) at the 7,040-yard, par-72 TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Fla., which ran Tuesday through Thursday. Fernandez finished the event with a 13th-place tie.
The 54-hole qualifier awarded conditional status for the remainder of the 2016 tour season to its leading top-30 players and ties. There are 10 more official events to be played on this year’s tour.
Fernandez joins former Golden Eagle Paul Apyan on the PGA Latin American Tour, who qualified earlier this year.
