PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Right-hander Jake Winston allowed a run in a career-long seven innings and catcher Chuckie Robinson and left fielder Chase Scott each homered as Southern Miss beat Troy 6-2 Saturday in the Cox Diamond Invitational.
Southern Miss (9-2), which defeated Michigan State 2-0 Friday, will wrap up the four-team event at 3 p.m. Sunday against Auburn.
Winston (2-0) allowed just four hits, while walking three and striking out a career-high seven as the Golden Eagles won their second consecutive game in the round-robin tournament at Bayfront Stadium.
The Golden Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning off starter Lucas Brown (2-1) when designated hitter Hunter Slater doubled, moved to third on second baseman Storme Cooper's bunt and scored on shortstop Nick Dawson's groundout to the right side.
Troy (8-4) made it 1-1 in the fourth when Joey Denison was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Austin Hulsey`s double.
Robinson broke the tie in the sixth inning with his second homer of the season, a solo homer to left field.
Southern Miss pushed the lead to 3-1 in the seventh inning when right fielder Dylan Burdeaux singled, moved to third center fielder Jake Sandlin's single and scored on a wild pitch.
Scott gave the Golden Eagles a two-run cushion to lead off the eighth inning by swatting the first pitch by reliever Marc Skinner over the left field wall for his second home run of the year.
Aided by three Trojans' errors, the Golden Eagles added two more runs in the ninth on first baseman Tim Lynch's sacrifice fly and third baseman Taylor Braley's single.
Troy tacked on a run in the ninth on Trevor Davis' infield single, but reliever Cody Livingston got out of the bases-loaded jam by striking out Reid Long to end the game.
Lynch extended his hitting streak to 11 games with two hits Saturday. Burdeaux, Slater and Sandlin also added two hits each in the Golden Eagles' 12-hit attack.
