
Women's Tennis Team Blanks Savannah State 7-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team completed their spring break with a 5-0 record after blanking Savannah State 7-0 Friday at the Tiger Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles (13-2) swept through the doubles and singles for the win. Savannah State dropped to 0-17.
"I am really proud of the way our team played throughout spring break," Head Coach Dominic Modise. "Each match was a team effort. We continue to improve and fight in each match. The girls just don't quit."
Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen won the first match of the day by posting a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Sandy Lochu and Elizabeth Geronimo. Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win against Bria Burrow and Tiffany Williams on court 3. Claudia Castella and Rikeetha Pereira finished with a 6-1 win over Rachida Kateb and Jennyfer Vivas at No. 2.
Heading into the singles competition, Marta Ruszczynska posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 against Williams. Pereira followed with a 6-0, 3-0 retired match against Geronimo at No. 2. Jerse clinched the match at No. 3 as she defeated Kateb 6-1, 6-0.
Rounding out the remaining results, Castella defeated Burrow 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 followed by Roca with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Vivas at No. 5. Kitchen finished the day with a 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 against Lochu.
"We are excited about playing at home next weekend when we host Nicholls and UTSA," Modise said.
