
Women's Tennis Team Defeats UNC Greensboro 6-1

STATEBORO, Ga. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team ran their record to 10-2 on the season with a 6-1 victory over UNC Greensboro Saturday at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles took the early 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen got things started with a 6-2 win on court 1 as the duo defeated Blaine Boaz and Sarah Swiderski. Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Corinne Blythe and Nancy Bridges at No. 3. Claudia Castella and Rikeetha Pereira finished the sweep with a 6-4 win over Masey DeMoss and Jamie Grinberg.
Drescher added a point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Amy Ellis at No. 1. Castella then posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 against Blythe. Roca clinched the match with a win at No. 6 as she defeated Bridges 6-4, 6-2. Pereira defeated DeMoss 6-2, 6-2 and Jerse added the final point with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 win at No. 4.
UNC Greensboro got its only point when Swiderski defeated Kitchen 6-4, 6-7, 11-9. This was the first loss for Kitchen this spring.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Kennesaw State on Sunday for an 11 a.m. match.
