
Women's Tennis Team Defeats Kennesaw State 4-0

KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team won their third consecutive match, posting a 4-0 win over Kennesaw State Sunday at the Siegel Student Center Courts.
Southern Miss improved to 11-2 overall while Kennesaw State dropped to 1-10.
"This was a good win today by the ladies after two tough matches," Head Coach Dominic Modise said.
Southern Miss captured the doubles point to start the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse posted the first win with a 6-0 victory against Jessica Cantrell and Gabriela Bueno. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen followed with a 6-2 win on court 1 against Ashleigh De Wet and Laura Hopton. Claudia Castella and Rikeetha Pereira were leading 5-2 when the match was halted.
Castella added a point at No. 5 when she defeated De Wet 6-1, 6-2. Drescher then claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 against Cristina Martin. Rikeetha Pereira clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gabriela Bueno at No. 3.
Southern Miss continues its road swing, traveling to South Carolina State on Mar. 16.
