Men's Golf Holds 15th Place at Oak Hills Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team shot rounds of 313 and 304 to hold 15th place after the opening day of the Oak Hills Invitational, hosted by UTSA, in San Antonio, Texas.
Being played at the par 71, 6,765-yard Oak Hill Country Club, the Golden Eagles were led by freshman Willie Hammond (Southlake, Texas), who posted an eight-over 150, including the team's low round of 72 over his final 18 holes to hold a 34th-place tie.
Junior Ryan Argotsinger (Kansas City, Mo.), who tallied rounds of 79 and 75, and freshman Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas), who collected scores of 78 and 76, each posted a 154 stroke total and a tie for 55th place tie.
Senior Hayes Weathersby (Poplarville, Miss.) added rounds of 78 and 82 for a 160 and a 73rd-place tie, while freshman Nick Cortez (Hoover, Ala.) added an 80 and 81 for a 161 and a 78th-place tie.
Oklahoma and Baylor lead the team scoring as both squads posted a 36-hole, seven-over 575. Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech ranks third at 586, followed by McNeese State in fourth (590), Southeastern Louisiana in fifth (591) and North Texas in sixth (594).
Houston Baptist ranks seventh at 596, with Sam Houston State (598), host UTSA (600), Texas State (602), Wichita State (605), Missouri-Kansas City (606), Tulsa (607), Louisiana-Lafayette (609) and Southern Miss (617) trailing in the team standings.
Freddy Anderson of Baylor fired a two-under 140 to hold the individual lead after the first day.
