
Women's Tennis Team Defeats Southeastern Louisiana 5-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis improved to 6-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday afternoon at the USM Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles claimed the first point, posting a pair of wins in the doubles. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen defeated Dalina Dahlmans and Renee Villarreal, 6-3 on court 1 while Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse downed Margaux Kaltenbacher and Dany Raygadas 6-2 on court 3 in clinching the point.
Southern Miss won four of the six singles against Southeastern Louisiana. Claudia Castella earned a point at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lucia Bustamante. Drescher lost to Villarreal at No. 1 by a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 score.
Kitchen posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Raygadas. Tjasa Jerse clinched the point for the match victory when she defeated Ceci Mercier 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4.
Rounding out the remaining matches included Roca defeating Madina Vorotnikova 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 and Rikeetha Pereira lost to Dahlmans 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.
The Golden Eagles travel to Louisiana-Lafayette on Feb. 20 for an 11 a.m. match.
