Golden Eagles Soccer Concludes 2016 Season

El Paso, Texas- The Southern Miss soccer team concludes its 2016 season and gives the program its first winning season in 13 years.
Despite falling 5-0 to the UTEP Miners Friday night, the Golden Eagles finished the season 8-7-2 overall. The Golden Eagles never let the offensive pressure down and recorded 17 shots in the game but couldn't get past Alyssa Palacios in goal.
Monica Maldonado, Ashton Stennis and Hannah Abrams all had three shots in the game. Stennis' efforts came close but would force saves from Palacios.
This season finished with many positives for the Golden Eagles. Brittany Taylor, Becky McMullan, Rikke Randrup and Karen Torres played and started in all 17 games this season.
Taylor adds her name to four Southern Miss records in saves, wins, goals against average and shutouts. Taylor now holds both the number 1 record in saves with 128 saves in 2013 and now the sixth place with 90 saves. After giving up only 17 goals in over 1,400 minutes Taylor moves into second place with an .87 goals against average. Taylor's five shutouts moves her into second place with all-time shutouts in Southern Miss history.
Stephanie Garcia finishes the season with six goals and five assists earning 17 points despite starting only two games. McMullan and Katie Richmond follow close behind with four goals each.
The Golden Eagles finish the season with 26 goals and 18 against.
