Doubles Pair Knocks Off Number Two Seed

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alex Kitchen and Carolin Drescher will represent Southern Miss women's tennis in the quarterfinals at the ITA Southern Regional Championships in doubles action on Sunday.
Kitchen and Drescher easily moved past the number two seeded team of Andie Dikosavljevic and Taylor Russo of Auburn 8-2 Saturday morning. The doubles pair beat Mississippi State's Lisa Marie Rioux and Sara Lizariturry 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Kitchen and Drescher are set to face Natalie Suk and Anna Vrbesnka of Ole Miss Sunday afternoon.
Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse will also represent the Golden Eagles in the semi finals of the B doubles draw Sunday. Roca and Jerse beat the LA Tech pair of Nadja Manjon and Alba Escalona Perny 8-7(5) to make it to the semis.
Roca continued her singles action success Saturday with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win against Judit Castillo of Northwestern State to advance to the next round of regionals. Roca will face Arianna Beltrame of Samford who is coming off a win from Roca's teammate Jerse.
Singles action will resume at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday followed by doubles action.
