HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The No. 15 Southern Miss cross country team will return to action following a three-week break as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the Crimson Tide Classic. The race, which will be hosted by the University of Alabama, will take place at the Harry Pritchett Running Park.
The women's 6k race is slated to start at 9:45 a.m.
There will be 33 teams in attendance including Louisiana Tech, Rice, UAB and Southern Miss, which will be representing Conference USA.
"The Crimson Classic is going to be a loaded field," Southern Miss cross country coach Aaron Kindt said. "Over a dozen regionally ranked teams from across the South, South Central, and Southeast regions will be competing. We'll need to be focused and ready to bring a big effort this Friday."
The Golden Eagles, who won the last showing at the LSU Invitational, will be led into this competition by seniors Dana Dillistone, Daphney Stanford, and Courtney Filliben. Joining the seniors are sophomore Victoria Hoppe and freshman Monika Gebarzewska, Theresa Harto, Regen McGee, and Savannah McMillon.
"We've had an excellent block of training these last three weeks," coach Kindt said. "I am very encouraged with the consistency the women have shown each and every day throughout the fall so far. As a group, we're definitely excited about the opportunity a meet like this presents."
