HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Fresh off two victories at home, the Southern Miss soccer team hits the road for the first of a two-game road trip at Old Dominion Friday night at 6 p.m.
The Golden Eagles defeated FAU 2-1 and Jackson State 3-1 in Hattiesburg last week. All five goals were scored by different Golden Eagles and two of which were the first of the season for both Rikke Randrup and Ashton Stennis.
The 7-4-1 Golden Eagles travel to Norfolk, Va., to take on the 4-8 Monarchs on the fifth of a six-game homestand for ODU. The Monarchs are coming off a 2-0 home loss to UTEP and have scored only 12 goals this season.
Brittany Taylor and Breann Hedin will look to shut out the Monarch's leading scorers Iris Achterhof and Madison Hogan who each have three goals respectively. Taylor has kept four clean sheets this season and looks to add another Friday night. The four clean sheets already double the number she tallied last season for the Golden Eagles in goal.
Katie Richmond, Bri Schubeck and Stephanie Garcia's offensive pressure look to get past Krista Moisio in the Monarch's goal having given up 21 goals this season. Richmond and Schubeck lead the team with four goals each while Garcia continues to set her teammates up with four assists in 12 games.
Scouting Old Dominion: The Monarchs have had half the roster score at least one goal. Achterhof and Johnson both lead the team with two assists. The Monarchs are 2-1 at home in C-USA play picking up wins against UTSA and FAU.
