Women's Tennis Team Blanks Jacksonville State 7-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team capped off the weekend with a 7-0 win over Jacksonville State Sunday, improving to 3-0 on the season.
Southern Miss opened the match, winning the doubles point. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen defeated Oliva Nguyen and Genevie Ulanday 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse clinched the points with a 6-1 over Courtney Conley and Isabella Calves at No. 3. Jacksonville State's Sadey St. Amant and Diana Mirceta downed Marta Ruszcaynska and Rikeetha Pereira 7-5 at No. 2.
The Golden Eagles swept the singles beginning with Claudia Castella with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Calves at No. 6 slot. Roca then defeated St. Amant at No. 4 by the score of 6-0, 6-3. Kitchen then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Mirceta.
Rounding out the remaining points for Southern Miss, Drescher defeated Nguyen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Tjasa Jerse took down Ulanday, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and Pereira downed Claudia Marsala 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 5 position.
Southern Miss travels to Alabama State for a match on Jan. 30 at 11 a.m.
