
Women's Tennis Team Sweeps Alabama State 7-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Southern Miss women's team remained undefeated after posting a 7-0 win against Alabama State Saturday in tennis action.
The Golden Eagles improved to 4-0 while Alabama State dropped to 0-1..
Southern Miss took the doubles points, winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen defeated Arantxia Wijingaarde and Marine Cartier, 6-1 on court 1. Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse knocked off Gabriela Lackova and Nicole Tekelova 6-2 at No. 3. Rikeetha Pereira and Claudia Castella fell to Irina Cvjovic and Brankica Orlovic 6-2.
The Golden Eagles made a complete sweep in singles action. Drescher added a point for the visitors' in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 against Wijingaarde. Jerse then defeated Lackova 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Roca then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 against Orlovic.
Rounding out the remaining results, Castella downed Tekelova 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6, Kitchen then defeated Cartier 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 and Pereira wrapped up the singles with a 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 win at No. 4.
Southern Miss begins a three-match homestand beginning with Jackson State on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m.
