Pair of Golden Eagles Advance to Quarterfinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Southern Miss had a pair of Golden Eagles advance to the quarterfinals of their respective events when Derrick Johnson and Elbert Rogers posted times good enough to advance.
Johnson, who was competing in the 100 meters, ran a time of 10.52 to qualify for the next round to be run on Friday.
Rogers finished third in his heat in the 400 meters, running a time of 46.71 in advancing to the quarterfinals set for Friday.
Rachel Polk did not finish in the top 12 of the shot put after posting a mark of 14.58m (47-10). Polk will compete in the discus scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. central. Kayla Taylor will also compete in the discus.
Other Golden Eagles set to compete on Friday are Ethan Rich in the javelin and Courtland Wells in the high jump. Christopher Monroe will compete in the triple jump on Saturday.
