Nine Golden Eagles Advance to Finals

EL PASO, Texas - Southern Miss track and field teams put a total of nine athletes in finals while another four claimed spots in the top eight including a pair of medal winners on the third day of the 2015 Conference USA Outdoor Championship.
The men's team accumulated 11 points through eight events for seventh-place while the women tallied 10 points for ninth place.
Courtland Wells highlighted the day's event with a second-place finish in the jump with a jump of 2.11m (6-11). Ethan Rich placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 64.80m (212-4).
Kayla Taylor earned a bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 51.75m (169-9) with Rachel Polk placing fifth with a throw of 47.76m (156-8).
Derrick Johnson advanced to the finals of the 100 meters while Elbert Rogers advanced to the finals in the 400 meters.
Kahlil Frazier also will compete in the 400m hurdle finals.
Mariam Kromah advanced to a pair of finals with the 200 and 400 meters while teammate Adriana Gilliam will joined Kromah in the finals of the 400 meters. Courtney Filliben will run in the finals of the 800 meters. Kristin Zarrella and Alondra Hoyos will compete in the finals of the 1,500 meters.
The final day of competition begins with field events at 1 p.m. with the men's discus while the running events begin at 4:30 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relays.
