Women's Tennis Falls at Tulane 4-0

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Tulane 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
Southern Miss falls to 4-2 overall while Tulane improved to 7-0.
"We were close in this match, we just had a slow start in the doubles," head coach Dominic Modise said. "We need to improve in that area."
The Tulane duo of Ipek Birol and Jacqui Katz struck first as they defeated the Golden Eagle pair of Karina Gurgenyan and Elena Roca 6-1. The Green Wave added the clinching point with Sade Atkinson and Naz Karagoz downing Claudia Castella and Lisa Schneider 6-2. Southern Miss' Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen was leading 4-3 at No. 1 before the match was halted.
The Green Wave took three of the singles' matches for the victory. Birol defeated Schneider in a battle at No. 1, 6-1, 7-5, while Nommensen posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Castella at No. 3. Katz defeated Kitchen 6-3, 6-2 on court 4.
The remaining matches were not finished.
Southern Miss is back in action on Feb. 14 when the Golden Eagles travel to Southern University and to Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 15.
