Women's Golf Set to Compete in Fred Marx Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team returns to action this Monday and Tuesday at the Fred Marx Invitational, which will take place at Calvert Crossings Country Club in Calhoun, La.
Under first-year coach Erika Brennan, Southern Miss will be playing the par-72, 6,157-yard course and looking to continue its strong showing over its first two fall tournaments, which has included a third- and fourth-place finish.
The Golden Eagles will play in an eight-team field that includes Alabama State, Incarnate Word, Lamar, McLennan Community College, McNeese State, Oklahoma City and tournament host ULM.
The action gets underway Monday at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start and the teams will participate in a pair of continuous rounds during the opening day, before finishing the event Tuesday with the tournament's final 18 holes. Tee times for the Tuesday round starts at 9 a.m.
This fall, junior Kelly Erasmus (Capetown, South Africa) has led the Golden Eagles through their first two tournaments with a 75.5 stroke per round average and posting a Top 10 finish in the Chris Banister Classic last month. She is closely followed by junior Devon Spriddle (Lethbridge, Alberta), who has posted a 77.17 average. Both junior Emily Ross (Diamondhead, Miss.) and sophomore Belen Abrile (Cordoba, Argentina) are next in round scoring average as each are at 77.33.
Freshman Miranda Holt (Pensacola, Fla.) averaged a 78.0 in her only tournament this fall, while fellow freshman Valentina Haupt (Santiago, Chile) is posting a 78.17 stroke average in a pair of events.
The Golden Eagles have had some success in this event, having won the team title in 2012, shooting an 894 in that year's event.
