
Track and Field Adds Assistant Coach

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss track and field head coach Jon Stuart announced that former Kentucky standout Jennifer Svoboda has been added to the staff and will train the throwers.
"Jennifer has great technical knowledge of all the throwing events, and will bring a lot of energy to our team," Stuart said. "I'm very excited about the impact she will have at Southern Miss."
Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Svoboda was an assistant track and field coach at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., where she was responsible for scouting and recruiting as well as organizing and developing practice plans, training programs and development strategies for throwers. She also aided in travel.
Svoboda also served as a graduate assistant at the University of Kentucky after a standout career with the Wildcats. Svoboda competed in the shot, discus and javelin. She advanced to the semifinals in the NCAA Mideast Region in the shot and discus from 2008 to 2010. She recorded personal-best performances in the discus with a mark of 162' and 51.11.75 in the shot.
The Howell, Neb., native was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll from 2007 to 2011. She earned CoSIDA All-District honors in 2009. She earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science with a minor in health promotion in 2012, while receiving her master's in sport leadership from Kentucky in 2014.
Svoboda was a four-time state champion in the shot in high school. She earned letters in basketball and volleyball. She is the daughter of Roger and Cindy Svoboda. She has one sister, Kristina.
