Men's Golf Heads to the Grove Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team will play its second tournament this week when it travels to College Grove, Tenn., for The Grove Intercollegiate, hosted by Middle Tennessee and played at the par-72, 7,368-yard Grove Country Club.
The tournament begins Sunday at 9 a.m. The teams will play 38 holes on Sunday through Tuesday.
Southern Miss will be joined in the tournament by five teams in Golfweek's Top 100 rankings, led by sixth-ranked Vanderbilt. Also in are No. 41 Ohio State, No. 53 GRU-Augusta, No. 59 Troy and No. 97 Tulsa. Also participating are Belmont, Cincinnati, the College of Charleston, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State and Tennessee Tech.
The Golden Eagles have finished in the top-five in three of their four tournaments this year.
Senior Casey Fernandez, who leads the team with a stroke average of 72.00, will tee off in the No. 1 position. He has finished in the top-20 in all four tournaments this year.
Senior Drew Kirby will tee off in the No. 2 position. He has a stroke average of 73.42 on the year and three top-20 finishes, including 16th-place at last week's Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Argotsinger is teeing off in the No. 3 position. He is third on the team with an average of 74.25 strokes and has three top-20 finishes this year.
Junior Hayes Weathersby is teeing off in the No. 4 position, averaging 75.67 strokes. In the No. 5 position is freshman Vasili Kartos, who is averaging 75.50 strokes. He is coming off his best finish of the year at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, tying for 14th-place.
