Indoor Track and Field Teams Open 2014 Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Southern Miss men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2014 season Saturday at the Auburn Indoor Invitational held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Junior Randy McCoy ran a school record time of 7.84 in placing third in the 60-meter hurdles, breaking the 13-year old record set by Southern Miss Hall of Famer Wenston Riley. McCoy ran a time of 7.89 in the preliminary round.
Kayla Taylor placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 12.95m (42-6).
Courtland Wells placed seventh in the high jump after posting a mark of 2.04m (6-8.25)
Jamar Sims placed sixth in the long jump with a jump of 6.79m (22-3.50) while Christopher Monroe claimed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.74m (48-4.50) and Jonathan Ruffin was seventh with a mark of 13.17m (43-2.50).
Southern Miss returns to action on Jan. 30 when the Golden Eagles host their own meet, KMS Invitational, in the Birmingham CrossPlex.
