Women's Tennis Falls To FIU, 7-0

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell to FIU 7-0 at the FIU Tennis Center Wednesday.
FIU improves to 4-10 on the season while Southern Miss slips to 1-11 on the year. The Panthers swept the doubles competition to begin the contest as the Lisa Johnson/Christine Seredni combination defeated USM's Mackenzie Oskin/Moorea Williams team, 8-0, in the No. 3 spot. Rita Maisak/Sarah McLean defeated Alexus Coats/Kate Lanier, 8-4, in the No. 1 spot and Giulietta Boha/Karyn Guttormsen earned an 8-6 doubles victory in the No. 2 spot over Elja van Berlo/Alex Bradley.
FIU clinched the match after getting wins in singles competition in the No. 3, 2 and 4 spots. Johnson captured a No. 3 victory, defeating Oskin 6-0, 6-2. At No. 2, McLean defeated Lanier 6-2, 6-1. Guttormsen tacked on another win for the Panthers with a 6-0, 6-4 defeat of Williams.
Closing out singles play, Maisak downed van Berlo in the No. 1 spot, 7-5, 6-2, the No. 5 match ended in favor of FIU Seredni as she defeated Bradley, 6-1, 6-2, and Boha defeated Frances Askew, 6-1, 6-2.
Southern Miss continues its road swing, playing Columbia in Coral Gables on Thursday.
