HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team concludes a four-game road swing when they travel to Tuscaloosa to face Southeastern Conference foe Alabama in a 6:05 p.m., contest, Tuesday, at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (10-6) have won two-straight games after winning the final couple of contests in the Louisiana-Lafayette series over the weekend. The Crimson Tide lead the overall series 68-27, but the Golden Eagles have won five of the last seven overall meetings.
Southern Miss defeated Alabama late last month 14-2 at Pete Taylor Park as that contest got the Golden Eagle offense going. Since that game, the team is hitting .321 and scored 67 runs.
Freshman Mason Robbins continues to lead the team and Conference USA with a .453 batting average on the strength of a 13-game hitting streak. Junior Dillon Day has posted a nine-game hitting streak and is batting .344 on the season.
Redshirt freshman Michael Sterling ranks next hitting for Southern Miss at .341, while freshman Connor Barron is batting at a .333 batting clip.
The team's top RBI player, Blake Brown, has collected a .315 batting mark to go along with 20 runs driven in, of which 18 of come over the last eight games.
Southern Miss will send sophomore righthander Boomer Scarborough to the mound against the Crimson Tide (6-9). Scarborough holds a 1-0 record with a 0.66 earned run average. He will be countered by Crimson Tide freshman lefthander Justin Kamplain (1-1, 2.51 ERA).
Following the Alabama contest, the Golden Eagles return to action at home this weekend when they entertain Murray State for a three-game weekend set. The two teams will play at 6 p.m., on Friday and then have 1 p.m., single contests on both Saturday and Sunday.
