PORT HARBOR, Fla. - Southern Miss' Derek Plucienski shot an eight-over 79 today in the third round of the 105th Southern Amateur Championship held at the Par 71, 7,250 yard Innisbrook Golf Club to finish the day in a tie for 70th place at 12-over par.
Plucienski, who began the day at four-over got off to a smooth start on the back nine as he birdied the 11th hole but quickly ran into trouble with a double bogey on 13 and bogey on 14. Another bogey on 16 put the Slidell, La., native seven strokes from par heading to the front of the course.
The All-Conference USA performer was unable to get anything going his way as he posted three bogeys and a double bogey on the front of the course to end the day at 12-over.
With a three round total of 225 (72-74-79), Plucienski is in a two-way tie for 70th place with the fourth round yet to come.
Australian Tarquin McManus surged to the top of the leaderboard on Friday with a third round score of 66 to go to seven-under par and a single stroke lead.
Plucienski will return to the course for the fourth round at 9:10 A.M. and will begin on the back nine for the third day in a row.
