Women's Tennis Team Falls to Houston, 5-2

HOUSTON, Texas - The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Houston in a Conference USA match Sunday at the John E. Hoff Courts.
The Golden Eagles fall to 7-11 overall and 1-3 in C-USA while Houston improves to 13-6.
Southern Miss took the early 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. The doubles pair of Stephanie Dellocono and Elja van Berlo beat Bryony Hunter and Dionne Sanders 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. Vroni van Berlo and Alex Bradley topped Celisa Fraser and Giorgia Pozzan at No. 1 to clinch the point. The duo of Åsa Bengtson and Zoe Lee downed Maja Kazimieruk and Joanna Kacprzuk at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (6).
Houston bounced back to take five of the singles' matches. Pozzan started with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Bengtson at No. 3 singles followed by Sanders taking the match from Shannon Rogers, 6-2, 6-4 at the six spot. Kacprzuk captured a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles against Lee.
Southern Miss picked up a point with a win at four singles with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win for Elja van Berlo. Fraser wore down Dellocono with a 7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-4 singles victory at the top singles position. Vroni van Berlo fell 1-6, 7-6, 6-4 to Hunter at No. 2 singles.
Southern Miss travels to Memphis to play UTEP and Memphis to close out the regular season on April 9 and 10.
