Men's Golf Heads to Conference USA Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team will travel to Texarkana, Ark., for the 2011 Conference USA Championships, Sunday-Tuesday, April 24-26. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club.
The Golden Eagles are looking to finally break through into the top spot, as they have taken second-place finishes in two of the last three championships and have finished in the top three in three of the last four.
Southern Miss is coming off two straight second-place finishes at the UALR/First Tee Intercollegiate and the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate. At the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, the Black and Gold placed four golfers in the top 20.
The Golden Eagles will tee off from the 10th tee. Freshman Zach Estep will tee off at 9:20 a.m. in the No. 5 position. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native is averaging 75.6 strokes per round. In seven tournaments this year, Estep has one top 20 finish. He is coming off his best finish of the year, a 17th-place tie at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, where he also shot a season-low 71 in the first round.
Freshman Kevin Brady will tee off at 9:30 a.m. in the No. 4 position. He is averaging 74.7 strokes per round. In eight events on the year, Brady has two top 20 finishes, including his last outing at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, where he tied for 17th-place.
Senior Brent Hobbs tees off at 9:40 a.m. from the No. 3 position. The Mesa, Ariz. native is averaging 74.5 strokes per round. He has four top 20 finishes in eight tournaments this year. His best finish was a 12th-place tie at the season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
Redshirt junior Nick Brown is in the No. 2 position and will tee off and 9:50 a.m. Brown is second on the team with a 73.7 stroke average. In nine tournaments, he has one top five, two top ten and four top 20 finishes. The Meridian, Miss, native had a career-best finish at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic, tying for seventh-place. Brown was recently selected to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
