Baseball Moves Up in Four Polls

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After a dramatic 12-inning victory over Ole Miss and a three-game sweep of New Orleans last week, the Southern Miss baseball team moved up in four of five national rankings Monday.
The Golden Eagles, which have been ranked over the last five weeks and appeared in all five major polls over the last four weeks, hold a ranking as high as No. 19 by both the Baseball America and Perfectgame.org polls. USM moved up three spots in both rankings from the previous week.
The Golden Eagles (27-8 overall, 6-3 Conference USA) fell one spot in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll to No. 21, increased three spots to No. 22 in the Collegiate Baseball rankings and moved up five places to No. 24 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association ranking.
Through Sunday's games, the Golden Eagles also ranked No. 15 in the Boyd's World (Boydsworld.com), while Warren Nolan (WarrenNolan.com) had Southern Miss No. 16 in their unofficial RPI rankings.
Southern Miss puts a five-game winning streak on the line, Wednesday when they travel to Metairie, La., to face LSU in a 7 p.m., contest at Zephyr Field. It is the first of four games for the Golden Eagles this week.
