Men's Golf Travels to Louisiana Classics

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss continues its men's golf spring season this Monday-Tuesday, Mar. 7-8, when they travel to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette and played at the par-72, 6,898 Oakbourne Country Club.
This will be the second consecutive year that the Golden Eagles will participate in the Louisiana Classics, and the fourth time overall. Last year, Southern Miss tied for eighth-place, tying its best finish at the tournament.
The tournament is headlined by 10 teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 100. Illinois and LSU come into the tournament ranked No. 6 and No. 9 respectively. No. 38 Kent State and No. 44 Tulsa join them in the Top 50. SMU is ranked 51st, Southeastern Louisiana is 66th and Memphis is 78th. Houston (No. 81), South Alabama (No. 83) and host Louisiana-Louisiana (No. 97) are also in the top 100.
Southern Miss, Arkansas-Little Rock, Kansas, Texas State and UAB round out the competition.
Southern Miss is coming off a seventh-place finish and the spring opening Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Redshirt junior Nick Brown led the Golden Eagles with a tie for 28th.
Junior Derek Plucienski leads Southern Miss with a 72.8 stroke average over 18 rounds. He has seven rounds of par or better, and has earned four top 20 finishes.
The tournament begins Monday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday. Fans can follow all the action on www.golfstat.com.
